Warning Description: Coastal Hazard Statement

WarningSum:...Test Of New Rip Current Valid Time Event Code/Vtec In Coastal
Hazard Messages...
Warning Message:To highlight the potential of a high risk for the development of rip
currents...the National Weather Service will add the new vtec of
rp.S for rip current statement within our coastal hazard messages.
The rp.S vtec replaces the coastal flood statement or cf.S vtec for
rip currents in our coastal hazard messages.
For automated dissemination...an example of the vtec text string for
this new rp.S code is...

An (o)perational (new) rip current statement (rp.S) issued by NWS
New York, NY (okx) at 6 am EDT on may 26 (261000) is valid from noon
(1600z) until 6 PM (2200z) EDT.

AWIPS ID - cfwokx
Please note that general rip current forecasts for the local
Atlantic Ocean shores will be included in our surf zone forecasts
which begin on Thursday may 26th.
This test of the new vtec event code of rp.S within the coastal
hazard message of cfw will continue until further notice...unless
significant negative feed back is received.
Customers must add or activate this new rp.S vtec to begin receiving
this information for automated re distribution.
Users are encouraged to provide feedback by using the brief survey
